"Science Communication Benefits and Pitfalls for Emerging Scholars (Prof. Fabio Parasecoli, NY University)"

We kindly invite you to our guest talk with Q&A, on July 12, at 12:15 – 13:45, in Schellingstr. 3 VG, 201. Everybody is welcomed!

Fabio-GWBridgeThis talk focuses on various forms of collaboration and generative interaction that scholars can develop with the public and civil society. At a time when it has become evident that as academics we cannot isolate ourselves from the world and from current events, rigorous and socially relevant intellectual engagement allows us to communicate and share scientific research in modalities that go beyond the journal or the monograph and that are more accessible to those outside universities. Using food studies as an example of an interdisciplinary field, Fabio Parasecoli will share concrete experiences of cooperation with museums to develop exhibitions about food systems, the use of social media to promote crowdsourced research, and the use of participative design methods to address pressing – and at times unyielding – issues that require difficult conversations among stakeholders with conflicting values, priorities, and goals. Environmental, socio-cultural, and economic sustainability emerges as central concerns in these projects, both as inspiration and a methodological approach.
