Canada’s Role on the International Stage

We kindly invite you to a panel with Canadian ambassador Vera Alexander: July 8, 7 pm at Amerikahaus

08.07.2026

The international system is undergoing a period of profound disruption, marked by great‑power rivalry, economic coercion, and increasing pressure on the rules‑based international order. In this evolving global context, Canada has positioned itself as a principled and pragmatic middle power—committed to multilateralism, democratic values, and close cooperation with like‑minded partners.

This public event brings together academic, policy, and diplomatic perspectives to examine Canada’s role on the international stage, with particular attention to its transatlantic engagement and partnership with Germany. The discussion will explore how countries such as Canada and Germany can work together to uphold international norms, strengthen economic resilience, and contribute to a more stable global order.

The Ambassador of Canada to Germany, Vera Alexander, will deliver a keynote on Canada’s role on the international stage, followed by a panel discussion with:

- Dr. Meike Zwingenberger, Director, Amerikahaus
- Dr. Andreas Etges, Senior Lecturer, University of Munich (LMU)
