rohlandThe paper retraces the evolution of environmental knowledge - and ‚hurricane knowledge‘ and ’science’ in particular - across the history of the city of New Orleans from its foundation in 1718, in the French Colonial period, to the 20th century. It highlights continuities and ruptures and from this long history of adaptation attempts to draw lines into the present.
